April 16th, 2012 in Chicago. I was hired to photograph Jennifer Lopez for the touring lighting company. The show was a Hollywood spectacle, with about 20 people on stage. In the center was a superstar, commanding total attention.
February 21st, 2012 in Chicago. I didn’t really know who he was when I went to the show (he was the opening act). I took some pictures because he seemed to have a command of the stage, and I thought he might become well known at some point in the future.
February 14th, 2013 in Chicago. While working for the Rolling Stones in 2013, one of my points of interest was to photograph the guest star who performed with them every night. There was a wide array of talent from night to night but none bigger than Taylor Swift.
September 24th, 2016 in Chicago. I had seen John play in theaters and always admired his command of an audience, but seeing him command 60,000 people in a baseball stadium was a showbiz lesson.
September 7th, 2001 in Niles, Illinois. I went out to the show not even knowing who was performing! I was hired by a production company that was trying out a new stage that could be driven anywhere and set up in a matter of hours- just plug it in and start the show! This was in a parking lot of a shopping mall in a suburb of Chicago. It actually looked and sounded like a real show.
August 3rd, 1999 in Rosemont, Illinois. This was done during the beginning of her career. She looked like she was around 12 years old, but her Disney training made her a great performer.
July 21st, 2003 in Rosemont, Illinois. I first met her at an auto race when “Genie in a Bottle” had just come out and she was hired to sing the National Anthem for the race. She and I then sat in the infield and watched the race and made fun of all the people swiveling their heads to watch blurs going by every 30 seconds or so. A couple of years later she was a superstar with an arena show with about 4 costume changes and props galore. But, man, she can sing!!!
November 1st, 2007 in Chicago. I have photograph many of the early American Idol contestants when they started their post-Idol careers, but she was the first one that, from the minute she started singing, I knew she was going to make it big.
